To date it has been found mainly in the extracellular compartment , e.g. secreted olfactomedin, in the extracellular part of transmembrane latrophilins (and in NOMR proteins with proposed ER localization). It has been suggested that the domain functions in mediating protein-protein interactions.
One of the cystein residues potentially involved in oligomerization of olfactomedin is conserved at position 192 of the proposed TEM41 protein.
